The Truth Teller

Hijabi & Proud

You might've landed here from my blog's homepage and have been wondering why a black hijabi amputee would be solo polyamorous. Like, doesn't that go against the teachings of Ahmed or whatever he's called? Yes, and I don't care. The hijab is my crown, and ever since listening to Lana Del Haj's albums that defined the 2010s, specifically Ultramadan, released under the impactful label Halal Records, I've loved slaying my Blue Hijab. Don't touch my hair!

What was really touching were her vivid descriptions of the moments shortly before her plane hit the twin towers. She sings on Gardenia in Eden:

Osama asked me to jump
I said, honey, no, I won't
He kissed me goodbye and yelled:
“Allahu Akbar, it's white!”

To me, this touched on my bumpy relationship with faith so succinctly. The moment of the crash was a very traumatizing moment for Lanita: Osama actually broke her trust and hit the ejection button despite her saying "no," which was the muslamic equivalent to an unnamed something she had been accustomed to in her Western and heretical life. That's when she decided to be truly beliefic.

Osama turned out to have some foresight. Had she stayed in that plane, she would not have had the chance to reach Middle Eastern stardom with her phenomenal projects Ultramadan and Lust Be Gone, two records combining R&B elements and Middle Eastern music. There just wouldn't have been space for her to bomb the way she did!

Seeing her push the boundaries of what's possible and accepted really inspired me to rock my hijab and create this blog <3
